Total Body Superset Workout Routine

Although body part-split training progam used by bodybuilders is effective on their own, it's best and most effective using a total body workout program for most 9-to-5 busy working people.

It's important to work your whole body for complete funcationality, range of motion, balanced strength and size. Our body works and moves in multi directions, angles and planes.

Superset is a weight training protocol where you perform two exercises back to back with little or no rest. You take the prescribed break only after you complete the two prescribed exercises at the prescribed repetitoins.

Beat Breast Cancer with Exercise and Weight Lifting

It's a very physically and emotionally draining process when breast cancer patients undergo cancer treatment. For years, breast cancer patients are usually advised not to lift anyting heavy after surgery.

New research shows that strength training after lump removal could help decrease risk of lymphedema (a limb-swelling condition) by 35 percent according to a University of Pennsylvania study.

The researchers say that the small amount of physiological stress that weight lifting puts on the body helps increase it's ability to fight inflammation - a key cause of lymphedema.

Cancer patients are recommended to get the doctor's approval before starting a weight lifting or strength training program. Also look for a certified personal fitness trainer who understand your conditions and can tailor the workout routine and exercise program to your needs.

Cancer Patients Benefit from Exercise During and After Cancer Treatment

The following article was written by Dr. Lee Jones titled "The Benefit of Exercise During and After Cancer Treatment" and originally published in Coping® with Cancer magazine, January/February 2011.

The therapeutic properties of endurance and resistance exercise have been recognized since antiquity. In 1995, the American College of Sports Medicine, together with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, published the first exercise guidelines to encourage increased exercise in Americans of all ages for health promotion and disease prevention.

These guidelines were based on remarkable data from epidemiological studies showing that regular moderate-to-vigorous exercise reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by one-third, whereas high levels of cardiorespiratory fitness may reduce these risks by up to 60 to 70 percent.

Unfortunately, investigation of the role of exercise following a diagnosis of cancer has received comparably less attention. In the past decade, however, examination of the role of exercise following a cancer diagnosis, a field researchers have termed “exercise oncology,” is becoming increasingly recognized as a legitimate and important field of research in cancer management.

Exercise During Therapy

Cancer therapy is associated with various degrees of damage to the cardiovascular system (lungs, heart, skeletal muscle) that also occur in the presence of significant reductions in usual levels of physical activity, which leads to deconditioning, weight gain, and loss of muscle mass. In combination, these effects dramatically reduce a person’s ability to tolerate exercise and normal activities of daily living, such as gardening, housework, and shopping, and can increase susceptibility to other conditions, like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and arthritis.

Several ongoing trials are being conducted to identify the optimal type, intensity, duration, and frequency of exercise needed to mitigate treatment late effects in cancer survivors. To address these concerns, researchers in the mid-to-late 1980s initiated the first studies to explore whether structured exercise training may be an appropriate intervention to mitigate treatment-induced toxicities and anticipated loss of cardiorespiratory fitness among women with early-stage breast cancer. Since these early studies, more than half of the exercise studies in people with cancer have been conducted during therapy.

Overall, the current research provides promising evidence that exercise training is a well-tolerated and safe intervention that can mitigate several common treatment-related side effects, including fatigue, deconditioning, nausea, anxiety, and loss of muscle strength.

Exercise After Therapy

Over the past decade, exercise has emerged as an integral aspect of cancer survivorship and preventing or treating the late effects of therapy. Similar to during therapy, clinical trials in this setting have provided strong evidence that exercise is a well-tolerated and safe intervention associated with significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness, fatigue, and quality of life in cancer survivors.

Most of these studies have examined the effects of either aerobic training alone, resistance training alone, or the combination of aerobic and resistance training in cancer survivors. Several ongoing trials are being conducted to identify the optimal type, intensity, duration, and frequency of exercise needed to mitigate treatment late effects in cancer survivors.

A major point of interest in exercise-oncology research is establishing whether the benefits of exercise extend beyond symptom control to improving longevity in cancer survivors. Several landmark observational studies have provided the first evidence that regular exercise (such as brisk walking for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week) is associated with 15 percent to 61 percent reductions in the risk of mortality following a diagnosis of early-stage breast or colorectal cancer, relative to survivors who were inactive.

It is becoming increasingly evident that sedentary behavior and decreased exercise levels following a cancer diagnosis can increase treatment-related toxicities, whereas engaging in regular exercise can significantly reduce the incidence and extent of such toxicities.

Current guidelines recommend that cancer survivors participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise (such as brisk walking or light swimming) or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise (such as jogging, running, or hard swimming) per week. However, this is considered the minimal amount of exercise required to derive health benefits. Increases in exercise beyond these levels are associated with greater health benefits.

The field of exercise oncology is rapidly evolving with many unanswered questions; nevertheless, the current evidence base provides a clear indication that exercise is an additional powerful weapon in the fight against, and recovery from, cancer.

This fat-burning and muscle-toning boot camp will take place at Morris Knolls High School in Rockaway, New Jersey.

DENVILLE, NJ -- February 20, 2011 – Two-thirds of Americans are either overweight or obese. Obesity has become epidemic and the number one disease to fight against to minimize the risk of cancer, cardiovascular conditions, and high blood pressure.

“Overweight and obesity has negatively impacted our healthcare system and drained our resources,” says Carey Yang, a personal trainer and owner of Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC based in Denville, New Jersey.

Business Lessons Learned from the Super Bowl Game: Why Green Bay Packers Beat Pittsburgh Steelers

For my friends outside USA, you may not think or call American football as “football” as the players don’t really kick the ball with their feet in the game except for the kicker. So bear with me for now. I won’ bore you.




Other than Olympic Games, the annual SuperBowl is probably the largest or craziest sports game for professional athletes, business, entertaining and commercial, not to mention the office pool in betting the game.



There are great stories in the history of sports and competition that we all can learn lessons for our game of life.



Vince Lombardi, the great head coach of the Green Bay Packers in the 1960s, whose name is given to the Super Bowl trophy, famously said, “Some people try to find things in this game that don’t exist but football is only two things – blocking and tackling.”

And most of the time, his wisdom holds true. Most of the time, consistent execution of the fundamentals will help you win at business, just as in football. The sales funnel — lead generation, lead qualification, and lead conversion — is the business equivalent of blocking and tackling. Master their execution and your business will thrive…no matter what your competition is doing.


But sometimes, blocking and tackling just isn’t enough. When you get to the very top level of competition — the Super Bowl of your industry — everyone blocks and tackles well. In fact, in the recent Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh offensive line actually protected their quarterback better than the Packers did.


So why did the Packers beat the Steelers?

According to Frank Tadych at the NFL.com blog:
No doubt the three turnovers played the role of catalyst for the Steelers’ loss, leading directly to 21 points for the Packers. This stat shows the importance of the turnover battle: teams with a positive turnover differential are 33-3 all-time in the Super Bowl. The Packers were +3 against the Steelers and +6 during the 2010 playoffs.

Now ordinarily, poor blocking by the offensive line can make the quarterback feel rushed, and this is often the cause of interceptions. Similarly, in business, tight cash flow can cause you to make bad decisions by chasing a quick back and giving concessions to get the business that end up being costly in the long run.


But like I said, poor blocking wasn’t the problem Sunday. The problem was turnovers… at least two of which were unforced errors on the part of Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. His receivers knew it:


“You can’t turn the ball over,” wide receiver Hines Ward said. “You can’t do it on this stage of the game for the Super Bowl. They were a better team today. They executed. We turned the ball over, they scored points off our turnovers, and it’s disappointing.” (Sports Illustrated)

And even he knew it:

“There’s a lot of what ifs. There’s a lot of throws I’d like to have back,” Roethlisberger said. “We turned the ball over. A lot of that is my fault.”

Superior blocking and tackling will win football games — it may even get you to the finals. But if your quarterback, the leader of your team, isn’t 100% focused — if they’re making bad decisions — at the top level of competition, that loses championships.

The same is true in business and in life. The fundamentals will get you there, but when the going gets tough — whether it be due to competition, economic factors, or other factors outside your direct control, how well you “read the play” and are able to quickly make the right decision, consistently, will determine your success.

There are three key ingredients to being at the top of your game mentally, whether in football, in business or in your life:
Attitude – You have to not just “think”, but know that you deserve success and are capable of attaining it. And while your conscious mind may want it, until you retrain your subconscious to support it, you won’t carry that same confidence into every decision throughout your day.

Discipline – As Vince Lombardi once said, “Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.” Creating a vision board one time, saying a few affirmations and meditating occasionally doesn’t cut it. 80% of the effort doesn’t produce 80% of the results — more like 20%. Consistency is key. Set and measure goals daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.

Coaching – There’s a reason every football team has a coach. Not just a coach, but coaches. Even if you know what you need to work on, an outside set of eyes can provide additional ideas, expertise, and most importantly, feedback that you can’t achieve on your own. I broaden the definition of coach here to include professionals such as life coach, business coach, mentor, personal trainer, nutrition coach, sports coach. Whatever area you want to work on, you can find an expert who can help you improve your game.

Morris County Personal Trainer Carey Yang Laments the Death of a Pioneering Fitness Guru Jack LaLanne at Age 96

Morris County personal trainer Carey Yang pays tribute to “The Godfather of Fitness” Jack LaLanne, a pioneer in the health and fitness industry, who passed away at age 96.

DENVILLE, NJ -- January 25, 2011 -- The health and fitness world lost an inspirational icon Jack Lalanne who died at age 96 on January 23, 2011. Jack LaLanne died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia at his home in Morro Bay, California.

“Jack was the pioneer of modern exercise and fitness. He was such an inspiration that I wish everyone, including myself, would do by exercising and eating healthy every day. It’s sad to hear about the passing of such a great man,” said Carey Yang, a fitness expert and personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC in Denville, Morris County, New Jersey.

Francois Henri "Jack" LaLanne (September 26, 1914 – January 23, 2011) was an American fitness, exercise, nutritional expert, and motivational speaker who had been called “The Godfather of Fitness.”

He published numerous books on fitness and hosted the longest-running fitness television show for 34 years. LaLanne opened the very first health spa in 1936 in Oakland, CA, and has since dedicated his whole life to encouraging people to better themselves through exercise and fitness.

Even the most famous exercise "Jumping Jack" was named after Jack LaLanne. It proves that Jack has such a huge impact on the general population. He's the godfather and the most influential person of modern fitness industry. “Without Jack there wouldn’t have been Jane Fonda, Richard Simmons, Denise Austin, Kathy Kaehler, Jillian Michaels, or Bob Harper,” Yang said.

LaLanne gained recognition for his success as a bodybuilder as well as for his prodigious feats of strength. He was inducted to the California Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I remember watching his TV interview when he turned 95 and was promoted his new book back in late 2009,” Yang said. “Jack was just as energetic and passionate about fitness and exercise as he’s ever been. He was doing his signature leg raise while sitting on the studio chair. Jack’s truly amazing!”

Yang said: Jack is the ultimate role model for lifelong health and fitness. He’s my hero and remained forever in my heart. Jack will be remembered and respected for years to come.

The health and fitness world lost an inspirational figure Jack Lalanne who died at age 96 on January 23, 2011.  Jack LaLanne died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia at his home in Morro Bay, California.
