Morris County NJ Personal Trainer Carey Yang Declares War against Epidemic Obesity

Fighting against rising epidemic obesity is a national warfare declared by Morris County NJ personal trainer, fitness expert and diet coach Care Yang.

National obesity rate keeps rising with no stop in sight. According to new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 32 million more Americans will become obese by 2030, upping obesity rates to 42 percent of the U.S. population

The report also predicts that the proportion of Americans who are severely obese, meaning more than 100 pounds overweight, will reach 11 percent, about double the current rate. The damage is $550 billion of obesity-related health care costs that can be used to build national infrastructure, improve education, enhance job skills training, reduce unemployment rate, and stimulate economy.

"This is a sad story to read," says Carey Yang,  a certified personal trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.

About 34 percent of adults are currently obese, creating a whole host of expensive, chronic health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

"This is a war and we have to fight together as a nation," Yang says. "It has to start with youth. We know that about 50 percent of severe obesity in adults is consequence of obesity in childhood. Currently about 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese."

Yang says, we have so many government agencies, non-profit organizations, communities and schools involved to fight both adult and childhood obesity with a variety of programs. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama early this year launched a campaign to fight childhood obesity by improving childhood nutrition and physical activity.

“Nutrition and exercise start from home. Parents hold the key to educating their children,” Yang says. “Parents should be good role models for their children. If your children see you slouch in front of the tube and dig into a bag of chips along with a bottle of beer, it’s hard to resist the same lifestyle. Chunky Mom, plus chunky Dad, often equals chunky kids and pets.”

Yang advocates parents and family involvements in fighting against obesity. Health and fitness is truly a family matter. He offers a few solutions to promoting active lifestyle and making healthy choices.

1. Be a positive role model. Parents have to set a good example for themselves and for their children such as regular exercise, being active and eating a healthy balanced die.

2. Set family time to prepare meals and exercise together. Research shows that families eating and exercising together also stay closer. 

3. Assign household chores. Children can learn the value of responsibility by sharing active household chores while increasing physical activity.

4. Limit sedentary activities. Watching TV and playing electronic games have taken so much time and opportunity out of moving around and exercising. Studies have shown that reducing TV time is associated with reductions in body weight and body fat.

It’s a day-to-day process and a series of repeated small steps that add up to awesome health habits. “Every time you choose the vegetables over the chips, a walk over a drive, and an active game over T.V., you’ve just made another donation to yourself and to your families lifetime health and fitness fund,” Yang says.

Morris County Personal Trainer in Morris County NJ Carey Yang Shows 5 Ways to Burn Off Fat Cells

For millions of frustrated Americans trying to lose weight, reduce body fat and get in shape, summer time could be worst season to hide their poor body shape.

"Unfortunately, you don’t really “burn” or “lose” the fat cells. But you can “shrink” the fat cells," says Carey Yang, a fat loss expert and celebrity personal trainer in Morris County, NJ.

Yang is the owner and master trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC – a leading in-home personal training company serving clients in Morris, Sussex, Passaic, Essex and Somerset County areas in Northern New Jersey.

The bad news is that fat cells can increase both in size (hypertrophy) and in number (hyperplasia). But you as a human being can only increase muscle (fiber) size, but not number. That’s a disadvantage!

"When you “lose” body fat, the fat cells don’t go anywhere. The fat cells stays right where they were before, under the skin and on top of the your muscles. In fact you just “empty out” or “shrink” the fat cells," Yang says.

Fat is stored inside the fat cells. The fat is not burned right there in the fat cells, it must be liberated from the fat cells through somewhat complex hormonal and biochemical pathways. Fat cell releases its contents (triaglycerol) into the bloodstream as free fatty acids. They are then transported through the blood to the tissues where the energy is needed.

Yang adds, "an infant usually has about 5 to 6 billion fat cells. This number increases during early childhood and puberty, and a healthy adult with normal body composition has about 25 to 30 billion fat cells."

Now here’s the ugly part. A typical overweight adult has around 75 billion fat cells. In the case of severe obesity, this number can be as high as 250 to 300 billion!

The average size (weight) of an adult fat cell is about 0.6 micrograms, ranging from 0.2 micograms to 0.9 micrograms. An overweight person’s fat cells can be up to three times larger than a person with ideal body composition.

"Sounds depressing!? What can you do to shrink those fat cells?" Yang says. "Learn the following take-home fat lessons:"

1. Calories count! The signal that triggers your body to release adipose from fat cells is an energy deficit… you have to burn more than you eat.

2. Cut calories conservatively. Starving yourself may cause quick weightloss at first, but never works long term because it actually decreases the activity of fat burning enzymes that release fat from the cells. to avoid this “starvation mode” use exercise to burn the fat, not very low calorie crash diets.

3. Get control of your weight now. If you are gaining weight, and especially if your weight is climbing upwards out of control, make a decision to stop right now. Your fat cells might be multiplying, making it more difficult to get lean in the future. now is the time!

4. If you’ve already lost weight, you must be forever diligent. Your fat cells are not gone, they have merely “shrunk” or “emptied out.” Fitness is not a 12 week program, its a lifestyle.

5. To stay lean you have to eat clean and stay active.

Genetics are only a minor factor. You may not have control over how many fat cells you were born with, but you do control the major factors that determine how much fat you store: lifestyle, exercise, nutrition, mental attitude.

How to Choose the Right Elliptical Exercise Equipment for Your Home Gym

Elliptical exercise machines offer a fantastic way to get in shape. If you're a fan of this unique type of machine, you may want to have one at home that you can use all the time. Investing in an elliptical machine is a big decision and not one that should be entered into lightly.

By using the following considerations, you can find the elliptical machine that is right for you. Start out by considering your budget. You will need to spend at least a few hundred dollars on a quality machine. You can spend up to several thousand dollars on an elliptical machine. It may be worth it to save up and buy a midrange model because they normally will last longer than the discount models.

The price differences will mainly be due to the quality of construction and the weight capacity of the machine. You'll want to spend a little extra if you are going to be using the machine every day, versus a few times a week. When you are evaluating elliptical machines there are a few basic keys that you should look for. The most important factor is the stride length. The only trick I know that will work

Today is January 22. Six percent of year 2010 (3 weeks) is almost gone that you can't take back. Are you on track achieving 6% of your goals for this year?

I have a great opportunity giving a Fitness and Wellness Seminar a few days ago. The title of my talk is "New Year, New Body, New You! - 7 Steps to Jump-Start Your New Year's Resolutions." It certainly attracted many people who wanted to lose weight and get fit. In fact, "lose weight" and "get fit" are two of the top 10 most popular New Year's resolutions of all times.

The #1 Challenge

At the very beginning of the seminar, I asked the audience to write down and share their expectations coming to this seminar and their #1 challenge that stops them from achieving their goals (lose weight and get fit) in the past. Here are some of the challenges in random order:

Late night eating
Junk food snacking
Lack of time
Lack of discipline
Just being lazy, lack of motivation
Age
Genetics
Information (lack thereof or too much)
Lack of accountability

Does any of these sound similar to you? You're not alone. They share many of the same challenges as you may have.

The numbers won't lie

According to a University of Scranton study on New Year's resolutions, a quarter of people who resolve to lose weight and change their eating habits on January 1st will go back to their old ways within a week!

So if you're still on doing something, you're better than 25% of other people. Give yourself a pat on the back. But don't get too complacent too soon. The study showed the following statistics past various milestones for the percent of people still on track.

Past the first week: 75%
Past two weeks 71%
Past one month: 64%
After 6 months: 46%

As time goes along, more and more people are falling off the "lose-weight-get-fit" bandwagon.

WHY??

Information is useful, or is it?

In the seminar, I shared my experiences, explained the Vicious Yo-Yo Diet Cycle and other pitfalls, presented my step-by-step strategies, provided tips to help them overcome their challenges. Some audience chimed in their answers. There were several great discussions as well.

Judging from the audience, I have this sense of feeling that 'lack of informatoin' or 'more new information' is NOT what stops people. It is the 'doing' part that keeps them from achieving the results. Far too many people spend time in searching, planning and getting ready. They never get to implement and actually take actions doing them.

In this age of information explosion and overload, I think we have more than enough information or too much information to keep us moving forward. Too much information can be too confusing to choose from.

Information without digestion is useless. Knowledge without actions is not power and won't give you results.

Your new resolution: 100 workouts, 100 reps!

The only 'trick' I know that will work is control what you can do and do what you can control.

If you understand this simple yet powerful concept, most of the #1 challenges listed above are no longer there. Agree?

As I said it all the time, everywhere, "losing 20 pounds' is not a healthy goal. It's an 'outcome' goal at most. It's a symptom from the outside. There's no power, compassion, desire or any emotion attached to that statement. Even if you get it, you'll lose it again. Fixing the symptom doesn't address the root causes. It will show up and repeat itself over and over again.

When you set a 'outcome' goal, you have to immediately set 'action' goal to support it. It's easy to say "I want to lose 20 pounds." What course of actions and corrections do you plan to take?

I issue a new resolution for you: 100 workouts, 100 reps! Pull out your calendar. Plan and mark 100 workouts for the year. That's just 2 workouts a week, not so much a demand, huh?! Choose 3 exercises in each workout. Perform 10 to 15 reps in each exercise and repeat for a total of 3 sets.

Sounds simple, right?!

One of the pitfalls most fitness and nutrition program fails is that people push too hard, too soon in the beginning and then quit the first sign of obstacle.

Keep it simple. Pick up the weights and start moving!

3 Nutrition Tweaks to Help You Cut Calories

Many people are "trying" to lose weight and stuck in last 5, 10 or 25 pounds. A lot of people don't know exactly what's working and why it's working and NOT.

Here are 3 quick nutrition tips that may help you:

#1 Cut your unhealthy carbs.
Cut off sugars and high starch carbs for a week and see how your body responds. Reduce your portion of food by a quarter. The best way to do this is take your normal portion of food and put back one quarter.

#2 Eat more raw vegetables.
Raw vegetables are the best source of energy you can give to your body. Eating more fresh, raw vegetables will improve your health, increase your energy level, and help you burn a bunch more bodyfat.

#3. Limit juices and sodas.
Real fruit juices may be nutritious but they're loaded with calories. Soda's are also loaded with calories. These are the hidden calories you don't realize that may add extra a couple of hundreds of empty calories you don't need. Drink at lease 1 glass of water for every 14 - 20 pounds of body-weight you now carry around, which is what your body really needs. Cut other liquid consumption down as much as possible.
