Dieting, Exercise and Survival During and After Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy has caused historical damages in New York City and New Jersey areas. Morris County NJ personal trainer Carey Yang shares his diet and exercise tips and how he survives 7 days (and still counting) without electricity and heat.

Hurricane Sandy made a historical impact on the East Coast this week. New York City and New Jersey are the hardest hit areas with more than $50 billion damages.

Millions of people are left in the dark and cold without electricity and heat. Gasoline to run cars and power generators has become such a demand and in big shortage. The famous 70-mile long Jersey Shore was washed off by surging storm and high tide. Sand has pushed inland a mile from the coastline damaging bridges and washing away houses.

Lower Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island regions of New York are also hit hard with severe flooding and damages. New York City Marathon has to be cancelled for the first time after frustrated public outcry over long and delayed rescue effort.

"Although Hurricane Sandy warning started a few days earlier and many people have been preparing for it, the extent and size is simply beyond 100 years of historical storm," says Carey Yang, a certified personal trainer and fitness expert  in Morris County, New Jersey.

Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC -- a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.

Yang says, I still have no electricity or heat at home 7 days after Sandy and don't know the power will be back. Several downed trees need to saw off. Downed wires need repair. The coordination between tree service companies, township public workers and utility workers seems to be a challenge.

"I don't have power generator. Luckily I have a gas grill with a burner and a full tank of propane to warm up water for tea and coffee, cook soup and simple meals," Yang says. "Still, it's temporary, not meant to last for more than two weeks."

Yang provides a list of foods and diet for emergency:

● Preserved meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, beans, and soups. They are often full of additives and salts. On the other hand, canned food is easy to get and store for at least two years.
● Protein/fruit/granola bars. Look for the ones without any HFCS or unpronounceable ingredients.
● Dry cereal or granola.
● Dried fruits, grains and nuts. If you can, choose organic and buy in bulk to save money.
● Crackers: Buy high-quality, high-fiber ones.
● Juice, plus fluids with electrolytes.
● Water: This is key. “Water is a not-optional item. If you don’t have it, you die.

Lastly, here’s a list of non-food stuff to have on hand:
● Soap, or alcohol-based (60-95%) hand wash.
● Any prescription meds your family needs, plus a basic first-aid kit that includes a thermometer, fever meds such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and anti-diarrheal meds.
● Flashlights: If your flashlights use rechargeable batteries, good for you, but if the power goes out you wont be able to plug in the recharger. Consider a hand-crank flashlight or solar-powered ones and/or emergency candles.
● Portable radio. Here’s one that operates on solar, hand-crank or battery power and has a built-in cell phone charger and flashlight.
● Manual can opener.
● Garbage bags: Use them for trash, make-shift sleeping bags.
● Tissues, toilet paper, diapers (if water is in short supply, you won’t be washing cloth diapers, so go for disposable eco diapers) and feminine hygiene supplies.

Breaking News: Hurricane Metabolic Fat Loss System Revealed by Dream Boy Coach and Celebrity Personal Trainer Carey Yang

Fit for Life by Morris County NJ Personal Trainer Carey Yang
America’s unstoppable obesity rates would account for more than $860 billion healthcare cost by 2030. “This is an alarmingly tough uptrend to fight against,” says Carey Yang, a certified personal trainer and fitness expert  in Morris County, New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
According to a latest study by Mark Huffman, an assistant professor of preventive medicine and cardiology at Northwestern University who presented them at the annual scientific meeting of the American Heart Association, Americans are continuing to get fatter and fatter. In the current trend, 83% of men and 72% of women will be overweight or obese by 2020.
Right now, 32 percent of men and 34 percent of women are obese. Those numbers are projected to rise to 43 and 42 percent in 2020, close to half of all people.
The number of people who have diabetes or are pre-diabetic is also projected to increase, from 6.3 percent and 37 percent of women to 8.3 percent and 44 percent. That’s more than half of women.
Yang says, we have so many government agencies, non-profit organizations, communities and schools involved to fight both adult and childhood obesity with a variety of programs. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama early this year launched a campaign to fight childhood obesity by improving childhood nutrition and physical activity.
It’s a day-to-day process and a series of repeated small steps that add up to awesome health habits. “Every time you choose the vegetables over the chips, a walk over a drive, and an active game over T.V., you’ve just made another donation to yourself and to your families lifetime health and fitness fund,” Yang says.
Yang offers four strategies to help overweight and obese men and women burn fat 24/7 by optimizing fat burning hormones and elevating metabolism around the clock.
1. Optimized Nutrient Combining: Avoid deadly nutrient combination of carb and fat. Release of insulin and fat promote storage. Do this by simply protein in every meal.
2. Carb Syncing: Prime your body with carb at the right times, in the morning and after intense exercise.
3. Strategic Overfeeding: Restricting calories and dieting put your body to starvation mode and decrease your metabolism to burn less fat. Strategic overfeeding resets your metabolism and keep your fat-burning furnace running again.
4. Metabolic Resistance Training: This type of exercise provides a huge metabolic stimulus to the entire muscular and cardiovascular systems at the same time through strategically designed full body resistance training combined with minimal rest.  This is what allows for an unparalleled exercise-induced increase in metabolism for hours and hours after your session—something we call the “after burn.”
“When you combine the metabolism power of Metabolic Resistance Training with the hormone-regulating power of Optimized Nutrient Timing, Carb Syncing, and Strategic Overfeeding, the only thing your body can do is respond by burning fat 24/7,” Yang says.

Why Fitness Training with Your Spouse is a Good and Bad Idea, Says Morris County NJ Personal Trainer

Morris County NJ personal trainer and fitness expert Carey Yang explains why it is a good and bad idea to train together with your spouse if you want to lose weight, get in shape, and improve your communication and relationship.

Newlyweds typically gain 7 to 10 pounds in the first year of marriage according to a study. Other than sharing a house, a bank account and a last name, splitting a kitchen is not always easy.

"I have consulted and trained many couples over the years. By observing their interactions and listening to their conversation about foods, habits and their weights, I can vouch that it ain't a pretty thing," says Carey Yang, a fitness coach, certified personal trainer and owner of Beyond Fitness Solutions in Morris County, NJ.

Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC -- a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.

"Often times I heard from the wives complaining that "my husband is making me fat?" Yang says. "Although wives tend to be the ones who compromise and adopt their husband's less-than-desired eating habits, it's not always the case. Sometimes, wives are the ones engaging in unhealthy emotional eating from stress, boredom and other reasons."

So when is the good time and bad idea for husband and wife train together? Yang has the answers:

- If your daily communication is healthy, training together will uplift you both and motivate you each other. Otherwise, you will put each other down and get worse.

- Additional benefit of training together is that you will usually pay less per person for the same session.

- If one is significantly more fit and stronger than the other, try individual private training first then possibly train together later when your levels of fitness are close enough.

- If the goals of husband and wife are very different (muscle building vs. fat loss), try individual private training. Otherwise, the training routine may not be optimum for both of you and become counter productive.

- If what you like to do is very different, try individual private training. For example, one likes to pump weight for muscle building. The other likes toning exercises, kickboxing, yoga or Pilates.

- If cost of two full private training sessions is a problem, negotiate two shorter training sessions such as 30 or 45 minutes. The trainer is mostly like willing to train two private clients back to back.

- If your respective schedules are out of syn, start with private training separately. Then try to work out a common schedule with the trainer so that you can train together.

- When all fails or in doubt, consult a qualified, certified personal trainer for evaluation.http://www.beyondfitnesssolutions.com/beyondfitness/about/about-carey

Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors Benefit from Strength Training and Cardio Exercises with Morris County NJ Fitness Trainer

Breast cancer patients and survivors can recover from treatments faster and improve their health by proper strength training and supervised exercises with certified personal trainer and fitness expert Carey Yang in Morris County, New Jersey.
Diagnosed and treated with breast cancer is a devastating experience. Breast cancer patients and survivors may be feeling down and out. “By proper strength training and supervised exercise with a certified personal trainer, cancer patients can recover faster can cancer survivors can improve their health,” says Carey Yang, Morris County NJ #1 in-home personal trainer.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
Current research provides promising evidence that exercise training is a well-tolerated and safe intervention that can mitigate several common treatment-related side effects, including fatigue, deconditioning, nausea, anxiety, and loss of muscle strength.
Over the past decade, exercise has emerged as an integral aspect of cancer survivorship and preventing or treating the late effects of therapy. Similar to during therapy, clinical trials in this setting have provided strong evidence that exercise is a well-tolerated and safe intervention associated with significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness, fatigue, and quality of life in cancer survivors.
Several landmark observational studies have provided the first evidence that regular exercise (such as brisk walking for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week) is associated with 15 percent to 61 percent reductions in the risk of mortality following a diagnosis of early-stage breast or colorectal cancer, relative to survivors who were inactive.
It is becoming increasingly evident that sedentary behavior and decreased exercise levels following a cancer diagnosis can increase treatment-related toxicities, whereas engaging in regular exercise can significantly reduce the incidence and extent of such toxicities.
The field of exercise oncology is rapidly evolving with many unanswered questions. The current evidence base provides a clear indication that exercise is an additional powerful weapon in the fight against, and recovery from, cancer.

Morris County NJ Personal Trainer Helps Weekend Athletes Recover from Injuries and Improve Performance

Denville, Morris County NJ celebrity fitness trainer Carey Yang is committed to helping weekend athletes recover from injuries and improve their sports performance.

Many modern busy people only have time exercising on the weekends. They tend to overwork their body and get hurt. They end up spending more time recovering and training.
“I get asked by many people as to how a personal trainer can help them as weekend athletes to achieve their fitness goals. Most real-life working people simply don’t have time to go to gym six days a week, two hours each time. But they still want to stay fit and play their sports or games on weekends (tennis, golf, basketball, softball, ice hockey, etc.) and enjoy their lives,” Carey Yang,  a certified persona trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
Many people are wondering if they should rest or work through while recovering from prior injury and surgery.
“This is a very common concern as most of us still live on some kind of old injury or recover from a new one. It depends on the severity and history of your injury. First, I’ll get your medical history and doctor’s report for evaluation. It’s a must if you had a surgery. If your condition is still beyond my scope, I’ll refer you to proper healthcare professionals. Otherwise, I may need your doctor’s clearance to start post-rehab exercises. Like many patients or clients today, they don’t stay in physical therapy for long due to insurance, cost and limitation. They start to look for personal trainers or specialists with post-rehab conditioning experience,” Yang says.
Yang adds, the post-rehab conditioning program will address the root causes of the injury and possibly its related area, or weak area in opposing muscle groups/joints. The goals are typically to regain functional strength, restore full range of motion (flexibility), correct imbalance and improve joint stabilization. Proper modifications to a typical exercise program are necessary to suit your special conditions. Your individualized program will change up and modify as you make progress. I’ll teach you proper forms, techniques, biomechanics to prevent from relapse or new injury.
Hiring an in-home personal trainer is a significant investment in your health and fitness. By providing personalized programs that are convenient, consistent, and customized to your needs and goals, an experienced personal trainer will ensure that you get the return you are looking for in less time and with less frustration than trying to do it on your own.

Why In-Home Personal Fitness Training is the Best and Most Effective Solution for Weight Loss

Denville, Morris County, NJ based personal trainer and owner of Beyond Fitness Solutions Carey Yang explains why in-home personal fitness training is most effective and the best investment to get results for fitness, wellness and weight loss.
For millions of Americans who suffer from perpetual weight-loss disorder, in-home personal training could be the solution. “What I mean by perpetual weight-loss disorder is that year after year, people vow to join the gym to exercise and go on diet to lose weight, their actions shut down immediately after they shut their mouths,” says Carey Yang, a certified persona trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
“Unfortunately, they’re partially to blame. The society is also responsible for brain-washing the mass,” Yang says. “These days, we have more information, faster and instant information, pushing to our smartphones that we rarely stay in one place or do and complete one thing at a time. We’re constantly bombarded and overwhelmed with the next new, hot and best things coming to us. It’s the same as in fitness and weight loss industry. There is always next best workout, diet, supplement, gadget promising revolutionary, amazing, quick results.”
Yang explains why in-home personal fitness training is an alternative solution to the gym, group or boot-camp class.
Personal fitness training refers to one-on-one private training. You get personal attention and a customized training program with a fitness trainer just for you and for your special needs at a convenient time to you. Training can take place in any open space–your home, home gym, club house gym, fitness center or gym–that both of you have access to. This is truly “personal” training instead of doing similar exercises together with a group of 5 to 30 plus people who have different levels of fitness and goals.
In-home personal trainer travels to the client and trains in a private setting at a time of convenience to client. It saves travel time, excuses for not exercising, and distractions from training in public places. No gym membership is required. Personal training is recommended if you have orthopedic conditions, surgeries, medications, or other medical complication because you can work with a trainer at your fitness level and at your pace.
In-home personal fitness training is also great for busy executives, stay-at-moms who can’t leave their small children, seniors who are not keen to driving, or people who are intimidated by going the gym.
Accountability and motivation is another plus in-home personal trainers bring to the program. People are all busy and distracted by many things. An in-home personal trainer would coaching, hold your hands through the journey, overcome any obstacles and keep you on track.
An alternative to one-on-one private training is Partner Training or semi-private training where two people train together, share the same session, and share the cost. It may work for some people but not for others, depending on your location, schedules, fitness levels, individual goals, and the trainer’s skills.
Hiring an in-home personal trainer is a significant investment in your health and fitness. By providing personalized programs that are convenient, consistent, and customized to your needs and goals, an in-home personal trainer will ensure that you get the return you are looking for in less time and with less frustration than trying to do it on your own.

Morris County NJ Personal Trainer Debunks Myths about Personal Fitness Training and Boot Camp Class

Morris County NJ-based personal trainer and owner of Beyond Fitness Solutions Carey Yang sets the record straight about personal fitness training compared to group or boot camp style classes in terms of benefits, values, time and cost.
Despite of seemingly popularity of personal fitness training from the Biggest Loser TV show and Hollywood celebrities in recent years, there appears misunderstanding and myths about who a personal trainer is, how personal trainers do their job and get paid, and who a personal trainer is for.
“The most common question is about the rate – how much do you charge?” says Carey Yang, a certified persona trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
“Unfortunately, the answer to this point-blank general question is not as straightforward as you may think as each industry is different in how it works and its pay standard,” Yang says.
Yang adds, I understand that people are shopping around but they tend to compare the wrong things on the wrong basis. I want to the set the record straight about personal fitness training in comparison with group or boot-camp style classes.
Group or boot-camp style classes are held at a certain set schedule in places that you have to travel to. You join 5 to 30+ other people doing similar exercises as a group. You reap the benefits of group dynamics and  team spirit at a lower cost ($15-$25 per hour session). However, you don’t get personalized attention and customized programs for your special needs and schedule. Training may not be as effective (too aggressive or too easy) since you’re mixing with different people of different ages, fitness levels, and goals. Travel time and schedules can become all-too-common excuses for many busy people to slack off.
Personal fitness training refers to one-on-one private training. You get personal attention and a customized training program with a fitness trainer just for you and for your special needs at a convenient time to you. Training can take place in any open space–your home, home gym, club house gym, fitness center or gym–that both of you have access to. Since it’s one-on-one training, you would invest more–typically $55 to $95 per hour session (in Northern NJ areas) depending on your location, training frequency, training program length, pre-negotiated package, and the trainer’s experience.
In-home personal training is particularly attractive and popular since the trainer travels to you and trains with you in a private setting at a time of convenience to you. It saves your travel time, excuses for not exercising, and distractions from training in public places. No gym membership is required. Personal training is recommended if you have orthopedic conditions, surgeries, medications, or other medical complication because you can work with a trainer at your fitness level and at your pace.
An alternative to one-on-one private training is Partner Training or semi-private training where two people train together, share the same session, and share the cost. It may work for some people but not for others, depending on your location, schedules, fitness levels, individual goals, and the trainer’s skills.
In a final word, don’t look at just the per-session cost but rather the “total” time and energy spent to receive effective training results. You have to  evaluate many factors and see which one is best for you and whether you like it or not. The “best” program is  the one that you will do it no matter how “cheap” it is. It’s your body. Don’t cheapen it.

The Top 10 Diet Foods to Shape Up Your Dream Body

Avocados
The cholesterol-lowering monounsaturated fat in these green health bombs can help keep your body strong and pain free. University of Buffalo researchers found that competitive women runners who ate less than 20 percent fat were more likely to suffer injuries than those who consumed at least 31 percent. Peter J. Horvath, Ph.D., a professor at the university, speculates that the problem is linked to extreme low-fat diets, which weaken muscles and joints. "A few slices of avocado a day are a great way to boost fat for women who are fat shy," says Leslie Bonci, R.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Bananas
Thanks to bananas' high potassium content, peeling one is a speedy solution to that stitch in your side. While a lack of sodium is the main culprit behind muscle cramps, studies show potassium plays a supporting role: You need it to replace sweat losses and help with fluid absorption. Bananas are also packed with energizing carbohydrates. One medium-size fruit has 400 milligrams of potassium and as many carbs (29 grams) as two slices of whole-wheat bread.
Berries
USDA researchers recently placed fresh berries on their list of the 20 foods richest in antioxidants. Just a handful of blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries is an excellent source of these potent nutrients, which protect muscles from free radical damage that might be caused by exercise. Shop for berries by the shade of their skin: The deeper the color, the healthier the fruit.
Carrots
Close your eyes and they almost taste like crunchy candy. Carrots pack complex carbs that provide energy to muscles and potassium to control blood pressure and muscle contractions, says Leslie Bo.
Whole Grain Cereal
Looking for something to nosh before you hit the gym? Raid your cereal stash. The healthiest brands contain endurance-boosting complex carbs and muscle-building protein. Sixty minutes before a workout, fuel up with a 200-calorie snack: ¾ cup of whole-grain cereal with 4 ounces of fat-free milk. "When you eat something before exercising, you have more energy, so you can work out harder and perhaps longer. And you'll be less likely to overeat afterward," says Leslie Bonci, R.D.
Chicken Thighs
Skimp on iron and zinc and your energy will flag. Cooking up some juicy chicken thighs or turkey drumsticks is the best way to get more of both. "Dark-meat poultry is significantly lower in fat than red meat yet has all the iron, zinc, and B vitamins that women need in their diets," says Seattle sports nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D., author of Power Eating.
Hummus
Complex carbohydrates, protein, and unsaturated fats—all the right elements to fuel activity—meet in one healthy little 70-calorie, 3-tablespoon package. Plus, hummus is often made with olive oil, which contains oleic acid—a fat that helps cripple the gene responsible for 20 to 30 percent of breast cancers, according to Northwestern University researchers.
Eggs
Don't skip the yolk. One egg a day supplies 215 milligrams of cholesterol—not enough to push you over the 300-milligram daily cholesterol limit recommended by the American Heart Association. Plus, the yolk is a good source of iron, and it's loaded with lecithin, critical for brain health, says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D. What does brain power have to do with exercise? Try doing a sun salutation without it.
Chocolate Milk
There's way more to milk than just calcium. In fact, it's a damn near perfect food, giving you a lot of valuable energy while keeping your calorie count low, says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D. The chocolate kind is loaded with calcium, vitamins, and minerals just like the plain stuff, but new studies confirm that milk with a touch of cocoa is as powerful as commercial recovery drinks at replenishing and repairing muscles.
Salmon
Great for heart health, but here's an added twist: New studies are suggesting that monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fats might help lessen abdominal fat. It's too soon to understand the link, but "this could be particularly good for women working to tone their core," says nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D.

"Working with Carey has helped me drop 25 pounds of weight (fat), gain lean muscle mass and get in shape. I couldn’t have achieved these goals by myself. More importantly, I have more energy, feel better about myself and I look better. Carey has educated me in proper diet and regular exercise to get amazing results. I watch closely what I eat and how much I eat. I learn from Carey that “I can’t train myself out of bad diet.” The best value of working with Carey is that he always challenges me and pushes me to lift more weight, do more reps & more sets, and spot me to squeeze that half rep – something I wouldn’t do by myself. No B.S. Guide to Summer Fat Loss Diet

Next to the holiday season, summer is by far the season when people want to lose weight, get lean and look good with shirts off by the swimming pool or beach. This can be relatively simple provided you follow a correct fat loss cutting diet.
Here are some of the facts that support fat loss during summer months. You will look good and beach body ready for the swimsuit season.
The heat: Summer is hot and the external heat is a natural thermogenic. People lose fat without any effort just because of the eat.
The sweat: You sweat a lot in summer. This causes you to lose fat along with the sweat you’re losing.
Appetite suppression:   People generally eat a lot during winter and automatically eat less during summer. This is because your body cant digest food too well because of the heat. So you naturally take in lower calories.
So what kind of diet are you supposed to follow to aid fat loss? Here are few simple guidelines for that.
Lose the carbs : Believe it or not its the carbs and not the fats that are responsible for fat gain. Excess carbs are converted to fat upon release of insulin. Reduce carbs to as low as you possibly can.
High protein : Eat a lot of protein. This builds up muscle and keeps you full. Proteins are the building blocks of your body and they build muscle. Make sure you get one gram per pound of body weight.
Eat essential fats : Fats are very important to the body because they are the raw materials to many hormones. Most important among these are a group of fats called the EFAs (Essential fatty acids) These comprise of Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Good sources for these are fats are Fish, nuts, olive oil etc.

Find the Gold Medal Olympian In You

The 30th Summer Olympic Games 2012 in London are in full swing.  Olympic sports are showcase of athletic skills, competitive spirits and also nationalism, business and politics.

I have been watching swimming, gymnastics, indoor volleyball, beach volleyball among track and field and tennis. I like Taekwondo coming up soon.

These are world-class athletes in stunning record-setting performance pushing human potentials. Four years of preparation and trials finally pay off to land their shot at the game. The game is physically demanding  as well as mentally and psychologically challenging.

We all are probably impressed by their performance and thinking that we can't possibly achieve that kind of performance - too old, too young, out of shape, lack of talent, too tall, too short, etc.

On the contrary, you find many athletes find the sports they excel at and train in that sport. Not every athlete is good at every sport. You simply have to find THE ONE just for you in power, strength, agility, endurance, and technical skills.

You can also find many athletes overcoming serious injuries, illness, and struggling. They are human beings. They are just like us. Their story from hitting lows then transforming into highs is something to motivates us and inspires us. Every can find their Olympic Champion and Gold Medalist in them.

Beyond physical training and excellence, Olympic Games also spreads the mission of Olympic Spirit:

"to build a peaceful and better world in the Olympic Spirit which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play - Olympic Spirit strives to inspire and motivate the youth of the world to be the best they can be through educational and entertaining interactive challenges. Olympic Spirit seeks to instill and develop the values and ideals of Olympism in those who visit and to promote tolerance and understanding in these increasingly troubled time in which we live, to make our world a more peaceful place."

Former Professional Football Player Trains with Dream Body Coach and NJ Best Personal Trainer Carey Yang

I recently have the opportunity to train a former semi-professional football player named Fred. Standing at 6 feet tall and over 300 lbs, Fred looked scary and intimidating to me when I first met him.

As we started to talk about his challenges, I realized that Fred is a good loving husband and father. Busy work and family schedule and prior knee injury were all his excuses for not going to the gym although it's only 2 miles drive across the street.

Lack of motivation is one of the reasons people are turning to personal trainers for help. Fred had made tremendous progress within a month, physically and mentally.

Here is the powerful testimonial from Fred:
My friends and family decided to chip in for my birthday present a personal trainer. As an athletic person entering his 40s, I was confident in the knowledge I had to train myself back into shape. Needless to say that Carey had an immediate impact not only in my weight loss, muscle build and areas worked, but his knowledge on nutrition as well. Carey’s training had me down 2 belt sizes within 3 weeks and ultimately taught me that there is always tons of information to be learned. I have improved my overall health, muscle to fat ratio and well being since I began with Carey. I’m so thankful to my friends and family for this experience, and ultimately to Carey himself. I have my swagger back! — Fred A., Wharton, NJ

7 Ways to Keep Your Cool Without Heat Exhaustion for Summer Workout

It’s been a unusually hot summer for most parts of U.S. Some 28 States have declared drought due to persistently hot temperature and lack of rain. Agriculture has suffered. You can expect higher prices for corn and soybean and their derived foods.
Health and fitness is a year-around life-long journey. But it doesn’t mean that you do the same things for every season all year around. Take consideration of summer slowdown and vacation.
Exercises in hot weather put extra load on your body and cardiovascular system. You should caution with your workout intensity and duration and make sure to hydrate accordingly.
The combination of heat, heavy perspiration, and inadequate fluid intake takes away your body’s ability to cool itself and your internal temperature starts to rise, sometimes as high as 104˚F.  The symptoms are similar to the onset of shock: You feel dizzy, nauseated, or worried. You could have a headache and/or a fast heartbeat.
Here are a few useful tips on how to beat summer heat and avoid heat exhaustion.
Just Get Out of the Heat
The obvious answer, but people often ignore it. You need shade or air-conditioning. And after you feel better, know that returning to the sun even hours later can spur a relapse. Be careful.
Drink Cold Fluids
Drinking cold water and sports drinks not only works well for fast hydration, but also will help lower your internal temperature.
Get Wet
Cold water on the skin is a big help. Cold water on the skin in front of a fan is even better. Spray it on, drizzle it over your head and neck, or wipe yourself down with cold, wet towels.
Check Your Weight
If you train in hot weather, weigh yourself before and after a workout to see how much water weight you’ve lost. Then replenish. The next day, weigh yourself again before the workout—and every day thereafter. If your weight doesn’t return to your original number or drops further, you may be slowly dehydrating yourself. Make sure you drink enough fluids that your urine runs clear.
Keep Your Shirt On
You pick up more radiant heat exposure with your shirt off. Once you perspire, a shirt can act as a cooling device when the when the wind blows on the wet material.
Stay Away from Alcohol
A good summer workout, or even a long round of golf in the sun, may make you feel that it’s time for a beer afterward. Watch it. Alcohol dehydrates you and can make even mild heat exhaustion worse. Hydrate first, celebrate later. (And even when you’re feeling hydrated, some brews are better than others.
Mind Your Meds
Certain medications, such as diuretics, blood pressure medicines, allergy meds, cough and cold medicines, can decrease the body’s ability to regulate its temperature, increasing your risk. If you have to be on any of those, consider exercising in air-conditioning.
